Generic Viagra: A Simple Definition

Sildenafil, sold under the brand name Viagra is used to treat erectile dysfunction and pulmonary arterial hypertension. It is taken orally or through injection into the vein. There is no apparent information if Viagra can treat sexual dysfunction in women.

Viagra is the generic name for Sildenafil was first manufactured by Pfizer in 1993. The patent held by Pfizer ran out in 2003, but Pfizer started making generic Viagra in 2017. When the Pfizer patent ran out in 2003, other drug manufacturers can produce Viagra, therefore expanding consumers’ options.

The United States Food and Drug Authority recommends the use of Viagra to treat sexual impotence. However, you cannot buy Viagra over the counter as you will require a prescription for such a purchase. In the UK, it is possible to purchase Viagra over the counter.

Viagra was not originally meant to treat erectile dysfunction. They manufactured it as a drug to treat high blood pressure and angina. Pfizer discovered some men could get erections easier. In 1998, they then used Viagra for the first time to treat erectile dysfunction.

Most men on Viagra use the 50mg dose but increase it to 100mg dose after consulting with their doctor. Some men reduce the dosage to 25mg because of the side effect associated with Viagra consumption.

Some symptoms associated with consumption of Viagra include; runny or blocked nose, nausea, headaches, upset stomach, flushing, muscle pain, and abnormal vision.

On some rare occasions, Viagra can lead to some severe side effects such as;

  • It may cause a partial loss of vision or hearing.
  • You might get an erection that is painful and lasts over four hours. If this happens, you need to seek medical attention.
  • It may cause chest pains at the onset of sexual activity.
  • In a few cases of men with cardiovascular disease, consumption of Viagra may lead to death.

There is very little to write about the difference between the generic and brand Viagra other than the cost, the manufacturer, the name, and how they are sold.

They work the same way and achieve the same purpose.

When to use Viagra
