Living Streets Scotland Walking Summit: steps to stronger towns and cities

Wednesday 21 March 2018, 9.15am - 2.00pm, Council Chambers, Edinburgh EH1 1YJ

Come and join Living Streets Scotland to hear how towns and cities across the country and beyond are creating world-class places for walking.

Our summit will bring together decision-makers, business leaders, place-makers and campaigners to discuss how we can create world-class towns and cities for walking in Scotland.

Walking towns and cities are economically stronger and resilient. Prioritising pedestrians over vehicles helps to reduce costly congestion and increase footfall encouraging business activity, whilst creating places to attract business and investment.

This one-day summit will focus on the opportunities for towns and cities in Scotland to improve their competitiveness by prioritising walking.

Speakers include:

  • Riccardo Marini, Masterplanning and Urban Strategy Expert at Gehl Architects; Marini Urbanismo.
  • Professor Cathy Parker, Chair of the Institute of Place Management, Manchester Metropolitan University.
  • Tom Platt, Head of Policy & Communications, Living Streets.

The summit will also showcase walking towns and cities from the UK and beyond, and provide an opportunity to debate the priorities and challenges in prioritising walking in our towns and cities with Alastair Dalton, Transport Correspondent from The Scotsman, and city leaders.
