| Glasgow BIDS Pilot Project |
Glasgow City Centre is the largest and most successful retail centre in the UK, outside the west end of London, and a vibrant and exciting tourism, leisure and shopping destination.Over three million people visit Glasgow each year and 80% of them cite the range and variety of our retail offer as a key factor. To maintain Glasgow’s unique retail position we need to ensure that we continue to invest in our transport, infrastructure and public realm areas, making the city safe, attractive and easy to visit. But we also need to ensure that we continue to grow our international reputation and strengthen our city brand through effective marketing and promotion - showing Glasgow as a great place to live, work and play. To do this we need to proactively manage our services and resources and to work together in partnership with public agencies to enhance the trading environment and together build sustainable economic growth for the city. A Business Improvement District (BID) will provide the platform to make this happen. Current status Glasgow City Centre businesses, through the Chamber of Commerce, are in the process of establishing a BID pilot programme that will determine requirements in the proposed BID zone and ultimately evaluate the benefits of the implementation of a business improvement district for the City Centre. The BID project is supported by Glasgow City Council, Scottish Enterprise Glasgow and Glasgow City Marketing Bureau.
